A spokewoman for TV Guide Channel confirms the service is in negotiations with Joan Rivers and her daughter Melissa to leave E! Entertainment Television for a new home at the listings network.
Though TV Guide Channel is hopeful it can finalize a deal with the mother-daughter hosts of E!’s Live from the Red Carpet, no agreement has been reached at this stage, according to network spokeswoman Georgia Juvelis.
She claimed that reports of a deal in Hollywood trade Variety (a sister publication of Multichannel News) are premature, and described reports of an $8 million salary for Joan Rivers “grossly overstated.”
Should a deal with Joan and Melissa Rivers be consummated, the number of homes the style and celebrity mavens could reach would be diminished. Although TV Guide Channel has added nearly 12 million subscribers in the last year (most through a deal with EchoStar Communications Corp.’s Dish Network), the listings service can now be seen in about 74 million households, compared to the 84 million cable and satellite homes with access to E!.
The Rivers are key on-air personalities for E!, presiding over much of the network’s red-carpet coverage for events like the Oscars, Emmys and Golden Globes.
