TV One Tops in ’06 Sub Growth


TV One said it posted the largest subscriber percentage growth of any cable network in 2006.

According to Nielsen Media Research, the African-American-targeted service grew its subscriber base by 39% in 2006, adding more than 9.5 million households from December 2005-December 2006 to grow from 24.3 million households to more than 33.8 million.

“TV One appreciates the consistently strong support we have received -- and continue to receive -- from distributors and advertisers since we launched nearly three years ago," CEO Johnathan Rodgers said in a prepared statement. "We are particularly excited to see, via hard data, what we have known anecdotally -- that African-American adults are responding positively to TV One and are viewing us as a home base for their entertainment needs.”
