Time Warner Cable is the latest major U.S. pay TV operator to launch access to Starz Play and Encore Play, two authenticated TV Everywhere services from the premium programmer that offer more than 1,000 movies and original titles per month combined.
Those apps, available to TWC subs who subscribe to Starz and Encore, are currently offered on several IP-connected devices, including the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, and select Android devices, including the following tablets: the Kindle Fire, Kindle Fire HD, Nook HD, Nook HD+ and the Google Nexus 4. Those services are also available on the Web at Starzplay.com and Encoreplay.com.
The availability of the apps to TWC customers comes about a month after the MSO and Starz struck a carriage renewal pact that, for the first time, covered the TV Everywhere component.
Starz Play offers more than 300 movies and 100 episodes of original series, including Magic City, Da Vinci’s Demons and Spartacus. Encore Play offers a monthly selection of about 900 titles, including 300 movies and select series.
“We are excited to further expand our TV Everywhere offerings for our customers with the launch of the online Starz Play and Encore Play services,” said Michael Angus, Time Warner Cable’s senior vice president and general manager video programming, in a statement. “This is another great example of our commitment to expand the number of ways customers can watch their favorite programming.”
Other pay TV operators to launch access to Play-branded TV Everywhere services from Starz include Cox Communications, DirecTV, Verizon FiOS TV, AT&T U-verse, Atlantic Broadband and Grande Communications. Among that group, Cox, Grande, Atlantic Broadband, and AT&T support Movieplex Play, another TV Everywhere offering in the Starz stable that offers more than 200 commercial-free movies per month.
Comcast and Dish Network, meanwhile, currently offer TV Everywhere fare from Starz through their own portals and apps.
