TWC Goes Mobile with Mobile Media

The Weather Channel and The Mobile Media Co. are launching a mobile-alert service that will provide consumers with weather, travel and other information through text messages sent directly to mobile phones, officials said Tuesday.

In addition to the current three-day forecast service, customers will be able to receive new on-demand messages such as airport departure and arrival delays; game-day forecasts for any Major League Baseball team’s next home game, up to 10 days in advance; pollen levels; and current conditions, such as “feels-like” temperature and humidity.

Each alert is 75 cents per message, in addition to any standard messaging fees or package rates charged by participating carriers.

The new services are available to customers of wireless carriers such as Cingular Wireless, Verizon Wireless, Sprint PCS, Nextel Communications Inc., T-Mobile USA Inc., Alltel Corp., Midwest Wires and Boost Mobile, making it TWC Interactive’s most widely available mobile offering.
