Time Warner Cable will launch its 11th local news operation when a channel debuts in 2009 to cover Buffalo and the Western New York region.
"This new 24-hour news channel will provide Buffalonians with immediate access to local information with special emphasis on weather, sports and politics," said Steve Paulus, regional vice president and general manager of Time Warner Cable's Local News Division.
The news operation will be housed in downtown Buffalo on Chicago Street. Recruiting and hiring are to begin shortly for the channel, which is scheduled to launch by the end of the first quarter next year.
The news channel will also provide video-on-demand content for Time Warner systems, and will have its own Web site. The company is finalizing the location for the channel position, but it’s likely to be placed on Channel 9 in the region.
Time Warner's other local news operations include New York 1 and New York 1 Noticias in New York City, R News in Rochester, Capital News 9 in Albany and News 10 Now in Syracuse, all in New York state, as well as channels in Austin, Charlotte, Greensboro and Raleigh.
