Microblogger to Raise $1.6B Through Public Offering

Microblogging juggernaut Twitter plans to raise as much as $1.6 billion in its upcoming initial public offering, pricing 80.5 million shares at between $17 and $20 each, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing Thursday.

Twitter first announced its intention to go public in September and filed more detailed financial statements one month later. In an amendment filed with the SEC on Oct. 24, Twitter said it could issue as much as 80.5 million shares in the offering, including 10.5 million “greenshoe” allotment if the stock does better than expected after it begins trading. While it was not specified in the filing, reports have said that Twitter stock could be trading under the symbol “TWTR" on the New York Stock Exchange as early as Nov. 7.
