A Mario Vargas Llosa-penned tale has earned a primetime slot on network UniMás.

El Chivo, a new series based on the famed author’s novel “La Fiesta del Chivo,” debuted Sept. 23 at 10 p.m. The show airs Mondays through Thursdays in the time slot.

Set in 1950, the series combines historical facts with fictional elements to portray dictatorial power in Latin America and the Caribbean through the life of the Dominican Republic’s most abusive dictator, Rafael Trujillo.

Trujillo is portrayed by Julio Bracho, who recently played the role of “Dagoberto” in the Televisa telenovela Por Ella Soy Eva and most recently was seen in the series El Mariachi, which airs on Sony’s AXN Channel across Latin America.

Starring as Trujillo’s wife Mariana Duran is Eileen Moreno, known for playing who played the adolescent “Griselda Blanco” in the acclaimed telenovela La Viuda Negra.

El Chivo is a co-production of RTI Colombia and Televisa, with a screenplay written by Kiko Olivieri, and is executive produced by Patricio Wills (La Viuda Negra).
