Universal HD will televise some 32 hours of the Dew Action Sports Tour in the enhanced format -- a commitment network officials said will mark the first time an alternative-sports tour will be showcased entirely in HD.
NBC Universal’s HD channel will broadcast the tour -- which kicked off two weeks ago in Louisville, Ky., and will also hit Denver; Portland, Ore.; and San Jose, Calif., before concluding in Orlando, Fla., in October -- alongside NBC and USA Network.
Universal HD will premiere its tour coverage -- which includes skateboarding, BMX and freestyle-motocross competitions -- July 22 as part of its “Friday Night Sports” programming block, beginning at 9 p.m.
In other tour news, Fuel signed a three-year deal that will see the Fox Cable Networks Group-owned action-sports channel produce a postgame show from five Dew Action Sports Tour events.
Fuel said it will run the postgame segments during special editions of its 54321 Weekly Update.
