Univision Digital Hires Senior Political Editor

Univision Digital, the digital arm of Univision Communications, has appointed Carlos Chirinos to senior political editor as the media company continues to expand deeper into the digital domain.

Chirinos, the former BBC World Service deputy bureau editor, will be based in Miami and report to Borja Echevarría, vice president of digital at Univision.

In the new role, Chirinos will head up political coverage of the 2016 U.S. presidential election across UCI’s digital platform, and helm digital-facing activities during and beyond the 2015-2016 election cycle.

Chirinos joins UCI after 15 years at the BBC World Service, most recently serving as deputy bureau editor for BBC Mundo, the BBC World Service’s Spanish-language website. He was also the editor-in-chief of “Enfoque,” a resource for international news analysis at the BBC, and was an in-house political analyst for BBC World. Before that, he was the BBC World correspondent in Washington D.C. and in Caracas, Venezuela, and a radio host for BBC Radio en Español
