After nearly one year of searching, Univision Communications Inc. landed
EchoStar Communications Corp. as the first affiliate for its TuTv joint
multichannel-tier venture with Grupo Televisa S.A. Thursday morning.
EchoStar's Dish Network will premiere three networks off the TuTv tier May 29
as new features of its "Dish Latino" package -- movie services De Pelicula and
De Pelicula Clasico, plus Telehit, a mix of music videos, concerts and
entertainment news, all programmed by Grupo Televisa.
Not in the deal: Ritmoson and Bandamax, which feature music videos, along
with pop-culture and lifestyle programming.
Dish Latino subscribers will get the TuTv services without a hike in their
monthly charge -- now around $20 to $22 per month, depending on the area.
They'll also get TeleFutura and Univision's West Coast feed, arranged by
EchoStar in a separate deal.
This brings the number of Spanish-language channels EchoStar distributes in
various Dish Latino permutations to 29.
Univision has been looking for TuTv clearances since last May, when the
package was introduced at the National Show in New Orleans.
