The nominees for the 2014 edition of Univision’s 26th annual salute to Latin music — Premio Lo Nuestro a la Música Latina — have been announced, and the network is already preparing for its Feb. 20 live telecast of the event from AmericanAirlines Arena in downtown Miami.
Earning five nominations apiece were veteran Spanish singer-songwriter Alejandro Sanz, Colombian chart-topper Carlos Vives, bachata idol Prince Royce and salsa icon Marc Anthony. Sanz and Prince Royce are competing for the show’s top award, Artist of the Year, along with regional Mexican group Calibre 50, reggaetón artist Don Omar and veteran Latin pop act Maná.
The list of nominees is based on the Top 500 Latin songs played from Oct. 1, 2012 through Sept. 30, according to Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems (BDS).
Despite the growth of the Latin Grammys, in its 14th year, the Premio Lo Nuestro a la Música Latina remains one of the Latin entertainment world’s biggest events, drawing millions of viewers to Univision each year. Winners are determined by popular vote from Dec. 5-27 at www.premiolonuestro.com.
