Univision Communications Inc.’s lawyers appear to have their hands full.
Grupo Televisa S.A. recently asked the Los Angeles Superior Court to affirm its right to transmit its own content digitally in the United States. It filed two lawsuits in the same court, seeking class-action status.
The lawsuits were filed within two days of the Univision board’s approval of the sale to the private-equity group.
Additionally, the founders of Disa Records have filed a $120 million lawsuit against Univision. In 2001, Univision purchased 50% of Disa and agreed to purchase the remaining half of the music firm in 2006. Disa says Univision is trying to “obstruct” that original agreement.
