E! Entertainment television will launch six new series over the next year, while preparing to enter the scripted arena with the development of several scripted projects, the network announced Monday prior to its upfront presentation in New York.
Along with the previously announced reality series The Wanted Life starring the pop music group The Wanted, other new E! series include: Total Divas, in which E! teams with the WWE to chronicle the wrestling outfit’s female superstars; and Pop Innovators, which showcases influential names in pop culture in their own words.
Other shows on the docket include Love and Other Contact Sports: Eric and Jessie, which will follow popular celebrity/athlete romances such as country singer Jessie James and NFL star Eric Decker; Hello Ross (working title),an interactive talk show hosted by TV personality Ross Mathews; and The Trend, which will explore all things fashion, beauty and design featuring a team of experts and celebrity contributors.
E! will also seek to add scripted content to its lineup of reality and specials through a slate of eight scripted projects, according to network executives. The projects (all working titles) including Laurel Canyon, in which a young woman and her son return to her dysfunctional, extended family after the passing of her rock-legend father; The Stand-in; a retelling of Mark Twain’s The Prince & The Pauper; Songbyrd, which follows the life of a prolific writer of love songs looking for love in her personal life; and Expectations, a drama inspired by Charles Dickens’ classic novel.
Other scripted projects include The Shoreline, which follows the class divide in a small South Carolina town that hosts a popular primetime soap opera; Dirty/Pretty, a dark comedy centering on a blue collar guy from south Boston who gets scouted to be a model in Miami; Fortunate Son, in which a society golden boy becomes a criminal informant; and The Royals, a drama framed by William Shakespeare’s Hamlet that follows a royal British family corrupted by power ,wealth and desire.
The network has also developed several specials featuring such stars as 50 Cent, Nick Cannon, Holly Madison, Jason Derulo, and Brooke Burke.
