USA Goes 'Covert' With New Series

USA Network has ordered another spy series, Covert Affairs from Universal Cable Productions.
Covert Affairs stars Piper Perabo as a young CIA trainee who is unexpectedly promoted to field operator. USA, which has scored big with the Nielsens with spy series Burn Notice, has ordered a 90-minute pilot, plus 11 one-hour installments of Covert Affairs. The series, which has yet to announce a premiere date, will be shot in Toronto.
In Covert Affairs, Perabo (Coyote Ugly) plays Annie Walker, who is thrust into the inner sanctum of the CIA when she is unexpectedly promoted to field operative. While it appears that she has been plucked from obscurity for her exceptional linguistic skills, there may be something or someone from her past that her CIA bosses are really after. Christopher Gorham (Ugly Betty) portrays Auggie Anderson, a CIA military intelligence agent, blinded while on assignment, and Annie's guide in this world of bureaucracy, excitement and intrigue. Peter Gallagher (The O.C.) is Arthur, the formidable director of clandestine services for the CIA. Anne Dudek (House) plays a married mother of two and is and Annie's older sister, while Kari Matchett (Invasion) is Joan, head of the CIA's domestic protection division and Arthur's wife.
"Covert Affairs is a perfect fit with USA's other top rated original series," said Jeff Wachtel, president, original programming, USA Network, and co-head, original content, Universal Cable Productions in a statement. "It combines the best of the network's brand attributes -- high-concept characters with an aspirational tone set in an exciting location -- this time in the intriguing and surprisingly rich world of the CIA."
