USA Renews New Hit Series ‘Covert Affairs'

USA Network, to no one's surprise, has ordered a second season of hit newcomer Covert Affairs.

The action series, starring Coyote Ugly's Piper Perabo as a gorgeous CIA operative and executive produced by the Bourne trilogy's Doug Liman, is the top cable show on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. (9 p.m. Central), according to USA, which did not specify how many episodes it ordered for the second season. Season one is 10 episodes plus the pilot.

Covert Affairs is the No. 1 new series of the year (to date) among persons age 18-49 (2.52 million) and has the largest 18-49 audience of any series launch this year (to date) at 2.76 million, USA said.

The show hit series highs (live + same day) this week with 2.34 million in P18-49, 2.4 million in P25-54 and 5.4 million total viewers, again according to USA. It's helped USA to an expected fifth consecutive summer win.

When USA aired the show Tuesdays at 10 p.m. this summer, the network was second only to NBC in delivering P18-49, P25-54 and total viewers while outperforming ABC and CBS among P18-34, it said.

The show also stars Christopher Gorham, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Peter Gallagher, Kari Matchett and Anne Dudek.

The Universal Cable Productions show is also executive produced by Dave Bartis through Dutch Oven and written and co-executive produced by Matt Corman and Chris Ord. James Parriott serves as executive producer with Jonathan Glassner as co-executive producer.
