New York -- USA Network gave viewers here a chance to screen six new and returning summer ahead of time, on a 35- foot screen on Pier 46 in a park along the Hudson River in Manhattan. The free events, May 31-June 2, drew more than 400 people each night, the net said.
And why not: attendees enjoyed complimentary Brooklyn's Bark Hot Dogs, new snack-sized Haagen-Dazs ice cream cones (a sponsor, along with Entertainment Weekly) and other treats as they leaned back in reclining chairs and enjoyed the show.
"It's really relaxing, and very nice," one attendee, who declined to provide a name, said. "They gave out free T-shirts and drinks. And the shows were very good too. It was something nice to do on a summer night."
USA looks poised for another strong summer, with shows like Necessary Roughness, a new series (debuting June 29) about a therapist assigned to work with football stars, plus returning spy skein Burn Notice (June 23).
Although the June 2 screening started a little late (around 9 p.m.) because of some high winds, attendees stayed entertained by music and handouts that booklets listing summer activities in cities including Chicago, Washington, D.C., and, of course, New York.
