Over the first five days of USA Network's coverage, more viewers were
following the bouncing -- not to mention served, sliced and volleyed -- balls at
the U.S. Open Tennis Tournament.

According to Nielsen Media Research data supplied by the network, USA
averaged a 1.2 rating overall Aug. 27 through 31, a 33 percent jump from the
comparable period during its 2000 coverage of the Grand Slam tennis event.

USA's Nielsen fortunes figure to climb further Wednesday night when it
presents the Andre Agassi-Pete Sampras quarterfinal match in primetime.

However, local viewing of the match between this nation's top two players of
the past decade could take a hit in Manhattan on what will be the first day of a
new channel position for the network on Time Warner Cable. USA has been switched
to channel 40 from 23, which is now home to Courtroom Television
Network.
