USA Network -- boosted by an original holiday episode of Monk, a weekend three-play of theatrical Bruce Almighty and World Wrestling Entertainment Inc.’s WWE Monday Night RAW franchise -- kicked off the final month of 2006 in first place across a number of ratings metrics.
The characters channel led the basic-cable pack with a 2.5 household-ratings average in primetime and some 3.1 million viewers, according to a Disney ABC Cable Networks Group analysis of Nielsen Media Research data.
USA also claimed the crown among adults18-49, averaging 1.5 million of those watchers from Nov. 28-Dec. 4. That was the network’s best performance with the advertiser-coveted set in almost six years (the week of Jan. 24, 2000), according to USA officials.
And USA was first among adults 25-54 for the week, garnering 1.5 million of those watchers on average, its best mark with that group since the week of Jan. 29, 2001.
ESPN was second for the week in primetime, tackling a 2.1 household rating, followed by Lifetime Television, Turner Network Television and TBS, all with a 1.8.
Disney Channel was next with a 1.7, trailed by Nick at Nite and Fox News Channel, both with a 1.5, and Cartoon Network at a 1.4.
ABC Family -- lifted by the first four days of its annual “25 Days of Christmas” programming stunt -- Hallmark Channel and The History Channel, were knotted in the 10th position, as each notched a 1.3 average, according to the Disney ABC analysis.
