Verizon Communications will offer “naked DSL” in its Northeast service area, AP reported.

Customers who already receive local-phone and digital-subscriber-line service from Verizon can now keep the DSL service and cancel their local-calling plans, according to AP.

A Verizon executive told AP stand-alone DSL will eventually be expanded to Verizon's entire service area and be available to anyone, regardless of whether they are a current customer.

Naked DSL became an option for Verizon’s Northeast customers Monday.
