Verizon Extends Ad-Rep Deal With Viamedia For FiOS TV

Verizon extended its deal with advertising-sales firm Viamedia to continue as the ad representative for FiOS TV in select markets, including New York and Los Angeles.

In addition, the two companies are making 20 additional networks available to local and regional advertisers, half of which are regional or national sports networks, for a total of more than 70 networks available on FiOS TV for local ad insertion.

Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed. Under the renewed arrangement, Viamedia will provide ad-sales representation services for Verizon in New York and L.A., as well as operate in Dallas, Tampa, Fla., Norfolk, Va., Providence, R.I., Buffalo, N.Y., and other markets when FiOS TV becomes available there.

Verizon on Monday reported that FiOS TV now has more than 2.5 million subscribers.

Viamedia has been representing the advertising sales for Verizon FiOS TV in multiple markets since 2007.

Verizon and Viamedia were sued in October 2007 by a small New York marketing firm, Digital Art Services, which said the subscriber numbers provided for FiOS TV as the basis for advertising rates were inflated. The suit was settled last year.

Based in Lexington, Ky., Viamedia has agreements with cable operators including RCN, Knology, Wide Open West, Atlantic Broadband and Grande Communications. Viamedia and its affiliates represent more than 2.8 million households in the U.S.
