Verizon Launches $40/Month, 3-Mbps DSL

Verizon Communications has launched a higher-speed, 3-megabit-per-second downstream digital-subscriber-line service priced at $39.99 per month for subscribers who also take a local calling feature set or a long-distance package.

The service, which offers 768 kilobits per second upstream, launched Tuesday in 12 New England and Atlantic states, plus the District of Columbia.

The company plans to launch the service in its 11 remaining states later this year.

The speed is double Verizon's 1.5-mbps baseline service for $29.95 per month.
