Verizon Launches MundoFox On FiOS In Some Markets

Verizon Communications has added MundoFox, the new Spanish-language broadcast network from Fox International Channels and RCN Television Group of Colombia, for FiOS TV subscribers in Los Angeles and Dallas, with New York and other markets slated to launch later this week.

MundoFox, which features scripted dramas, news, sports, game shows and comedies, has deals with local broadcast affiliates across the U.S. In New York City, for example, the channel is available America TeVe-owned WPXO, which is carried on Time Warner Cable and Cablevision Systems' Optimum cable systems in the Bronx and Brooklyn.

"We are delighted to add MundoFox to the FiOS TV lineup," Michelle Webb, Verizon director of content strategy and acquisition, said in a statement. "As we continue to give our FiOS customers more and more Spanish-language programming, we are ensuring they have access to the best -- and the most -- channels available today."

MundoFox president Emiliano Saccone commented, "Bringing MundoFox to FiOS subscribers is an important step in the growth of our network. Having a tremendous distribution partner like Verizon will allow more viewers to experience our diverse roster of quality programming that echoes the interests of the 'New Latino' viewer."

MundoFox is now part of the FiOS TV lineup in the L.A. (channel 22) and Dallas (channel 14) areas. By the end of the week, the channel will be available on FiOS TV channel 20 for FiOS TV customers in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey and the New York City area. Verizon expects MundoFox to launch in Florida on FiOS TV channel 27 in September and plans to add the HD version of the channel to the FiOS TV lineup by year-end.

MundoFox is available or will be available in all FiOS TV packages for customers in these areas. Separately the telco offers La Conexion, a bundled package that includes more than 190 channels including 31 in HD plus Verizon phone and FiOS Internet services for $89.99 per month. Verizon's Spanish-language package, available for $12.99 per month, features 70 Spanish channels, including news, sports and entertainment.
