Verizon Means Business With FiOS Upstream Upgrade

Matching what it’s already done on the residential side of its FiOS broadband house, Verizon Communications this week launched upgrades to FiOS Internet tiers for small business customers that deliver symmetrical data speeds.

The free upgrade, dubbed “SpeedMatch,” was became active for FiOS Internet business customers on Monday (Sept. 22), taking aim at apps and services that require a beefy upstream, such as massive file uploads and video conferencing.

Here’s a snapshot of how the new stand-alone symmetrical SpeedMatch tiers size up in terms of speed and price:

-25 Mbps down/25 Mbps up: Starts at $64.99 per month and targets smaller offices with one to two users or devices.

50x50: Starts at $89.99 per month, tailored for 3 or more users/devices.

75x75: Starts at $114.99 per month, for up to four users/devices.

-150 Mbps down/150 Mbps up: Starts at $174.99 per month with a two-year agreement, and targets one to five users or devices.

-300x300: Starts at $254.99 per month, targeting six or more users.

-500x500: Starts at $364.99 per month.

All pricing is based on a two-year commitment. This page shows the full set of pricing, including service bundle pricing for tiers that are entering the picture as cable operators continue to ramp up deployments of fiber-based Metro Ethernet services targeted to small- and mid-sized business customers.

Verizon is beefing up its FiOS upstream amid studies showing that upload activity on its network is expected to double by late 2016 and as the so-called “Internet of Things” applies more capacity pressure.
