Motorola Inc. will join AFC Cable Systems Inc. as a second vendor for Verizon Communications' fiber-to-the-premise FiOS buildout.
Verizon plans to pass 3 million homes and businesses by year's end, and it has already launched a high-speed-data service that tiers up to 30 megabits per second. Video service is slated for later this year.
Verizon said it is buying high-density, multiprotocol optical-line terminals, intelligent optical-network terminals and video-optimized amplifiers from Motorola. Last October, Verizon selected Motorola to supply it with headend gear, digital set-tops and integration services.
