Verizon Communications Inc. will demonstrate its new video product and officially detail its pricing and packaging at a recreation center in Keller, Texas, Thursday.
Joining the telco at the event will be Gov. Rick Perry.
Verizon has five franchises in the state, and it has always asserted that Keller -- with an estimated population of 33,000, located north of Fort Worth -- would have the honor of being the site of the first commercial launch of the telephone-plant-delivered, fiber-to-the-premises video product. Keller was selected because of its proximity to Verizon offices.
The telco also has franchises, or is in final negotiations, in California, Florida, Maryland and Virginia.
Verizon could launch service at will across Texas if a recent state bill allowing statewide franchises holds up to a federal court challenge by Texas' cable operators. Perry is a named defendant in that suit.
