Verizon Communications appointed Eric Fitzgerald Reed as head of public-policy initiatives with the high-tech and entertainment industries, effective immediately.
Reed joined Verizon's federal regulatory group in 2000. In 2006, he became vice president of market issues and policy in the company's public affairs, policy and communications organization. In that position, Verizon said, Reed has developed and advanced Verizon's policy on a variety of broadband and technology issues and represented the telco in various technology, business and manufacturing associations.
In his new role, Reed will be based in San Francisco.
"Eric's proven track record with the high-tech industry, his strong network of contacts and thorough understanding of the complex relationships within the Internet ecosystem will make him a valuable asset to our team," Verizon's West region vice president Tim McCallion said in a statement. "His tech industry expertise will be an important resource as we continue to cultivate a favorable public policy environment for tech investment, collaboration and partnerships, innovation and consumer choice in California and other high-tech centers."
