Ultimate Fighting Championship owner Zuffa expanded its mixed-martial-arts reach through a contract with Versus for its recently acquired World Extreme Cagefighting franchise.
Versus will air three live fights and six one-hour highlight shows beginning this summer as part of its deal with Zuffa, which purchased the five-year-old company last year. Zuffa's UFC franchise airs on Spike TV.
“This is a partnership that will propel Versus and the WEC to the top of the mixed-martial-arts world,” Versus president Gavin Harvey said in a prepared statement. “This genre fortifies the competitive core of the Versus brand -- it’s in Versus’ blood to bring real, pure and raw sports to our viewers -- and we intend to be an aggressive leader in this category.”
