MTV Networks-owned VH1 will make its first foray into the video-on-demand space in July with the premiere of its new reality series, Hogan Knows Best, via Comcast Corp.’s on-demand service.
Comcast On Demand subscribers will have access to the first episode of the series, which chronicles the family life of pro wrestling star Hulk Hogan, on July 1, nine days before its VH1 debut, said network executives.
In addition to the first episode of Hogan Knows Best, VH1 is planning to offer other programs, including exclusive music concerts, interviews with the biggest artists and other pop culture and “Celebreality” shows via on demand later this year.
“We’re thrilled to be making our first leap into the VOD arena with partners as strong as Comcast — and Hulk Hogan,” said VH1 general manager Tom Calderone in a statement. “The VOD platform presents many possibilities and conveniences to viewers, programmers and our distribution partners. We expect to present even more VOD programs in the future.”
