MTV Networks research guru Betsy Frank got a big promotion Tuesday, being named to the newly created post of executive vice president of research and planning for not only all of Viacom Inc.’s cable networks, but its film and publishing units, as well.
Most recently, Frank was executive VP of research and planning for MTVN, which she joined in 1997. Now, she will report jointly to Viacom co-president Tom Freston and MTVN chairman Judy McGrath.
Frank will work with Freston and the chiefs of the company’s cable, film and publishing divisions. In addition to MTVN, Freston has Showtime Networks Inc., Black Entertainment Television, Paramount Pictures and Simon & Schuster under his purview.
“When it comes to getting inside the minds of consumers, Betsy is the best in the business,” Freston said in a prepared statement. “Betsy’s work here over the past seven years has been a huge factor in the phenomenal success of MTV Networks … It’s a great opportunity now to take Betsy’s expertise and share it with the other divisions in my portfolio.”
