Viewers to Choose Cartoon Series


Cartoon Network will allow viewers to choose the network's next animated
series from several pilots as part of a 52-hour original-programming marathon in
late August.

During the weekend of Aug. 24 through 26, Cartoon viewers will vote for one
of 10 seven-minute animated pilots that will run on-air throughout the weekend,
the network said. The pilot that gets the most votes will be converted into a
regular series on Cartoon next year.

Cartoon will also air the first of 13 episodes of last year's winner, Grim
& Evil
, during the weekend. Last year's contest drew about 300,000
votes, network representatives said.

Some of this year's pilot ideas include Captain Sturdy, a superhero
who is forced out of retirement to fight crime; My Freaky Family, about a
school-aged girl and her outlandish family; and Swaroop, about a family
trying to assimilate their Indian heritage with modern American
