The June 20 premiere of USA Network drama series Monk set a ratings
record for the sophomore skein.
The series, starring Tony Shalhoub as an obsessive-compulsive detective, drew
a 4.1 household rating, up 18 percent from the 3.5 the premiere of the series
generated last July 12, network officials said.
The 4.1 is also the highest rating ever for the series, besting a 3.7 for a
July 26, 2002, episode.
Monk finished 2002 as the highest-rated original series with a 3.3
It was also the first scripted cable series to be repurposed on broadcast
television when ABC picked up episodes last summer. ABC, though, has made no
