Vimeo Adds Cheddar to Streaming Mix

OTT specialist Vimeo has added Cheddar, a new SVOD service from former BuzzFeed exec Jon Steinberg that’s focused on business, media, and cultural news, to its streaming platform.

Vimeo said the deal gives Cheddar, a service that costs $6.99 per month and is targeted to millennial audiences, access to a platform with 280 million monthly users. The recently-launched Cheddar service broadcasts from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange trading floor and NASDAQ Marketsite.

The Vimeo-powered offering is available at Cheddar.tv or Cheddar.com, or any device with the Vimeo app.  Cheddar is also slated to launch its own dedicated iOS, tvOS, and Roku apps within about 90 days.  Vimeo, which announced the acquisition of VHX last week, said those apps will also be powered by Vimeo’s OTT and SVOD technology platform.

“The OTT industry is expanding to include a flourishing world of interest based streaming channels,” Kerry Trainor, CEO of Vimeo, said in a statement. “Cheddar’s fresh take on financial news delivered directly through the Vimeo global streaming marketplace is a prime example of this. We’re thrilled to have Cheddar onboard with Vimeo."

Founded in 2004 and based in New York City, Vimeo is an operating business of IAC. Cheddar was founded by Steinberg, who was president and COO of BuzzFeed from 2010 to 2014.
