Vimeo Adds Transactions to Roku Channel

Vimeo has moved forward with a major update to its Roku app that adds transactional support to the platform, meaning that users can now browse Vimeo’s catalog of 30,000 titles and make purchases directly.

“For the first time ever, you can purchase and rent high-quality films and series directly from creators, right from the Vimeo channel on your TV,” Will True, Vimeo’s senior product manager, TV apps, explained in this blog post.

For sellers, he added, the new feature “means your videos now have the opportunity to reach the millions of people who use Roku for their video-watching needs.”

Vimeo has also added other features to its Roku channel, including the addition of activation codes (users won’t have to enter individual email address and passwords), support for adaptive streaming (via HLS), and support for the new 4K-capable Roku 4.
