Vivendi Universal and Thomson Multimedia said Friday that the two French
companies have struck a strategic partnership to help develop the market for
digital media and to combat the theft of digital content.
Vivendi CEO Jean-Marie Messier and Thomson CEO Thierry Breton will chair a
strategic-partnership committee, scheduled to meet on a quarterly basis for the
next three years.
The companies will work together to test new video technologies, such as
Thomson will be a preferred supplier for next-generation set-top boxes that
incorporate Vivendi's Canal+ digital-television technology.
