MTV Networks Latin America will hold its MTV Video Music Awards Latin America 2005 Wednesday night due to weather concerns.
The VMALAs were originally scheduled for Thursday night. The event will still air on MTV Latin America in more than 24 countries Thursday night and on MTV2, MTV Puerto Rico and MTV Español in the United States.
“This decision was not taken lightly, as it is extremely difficult to move a show of such magnitude to an earlier date on such short notice,” MTVN Latin America managing director Pierluigi Gazzolo said in a prepared statement.
“However, the safety and well-being of everybody involved in the show takes precedence, and we’re confident that the amazing talent and expertise that characterizes our staff and crews will make this sudden change possible and that we’ll have a great event,” he added.
Mexican rock band Molotov will host the 2005 VMALAs from the Great Tlachco Theater in Xcaret, located in Playa del Carmen in the Mexican Caribbean.
Scheduled performers include Ricky Martin, Juanes, Belinda, Miranda!, Reik, My Chemical Romance, Sean Paul, Babasónicos, Shakira, Foo Fighters, Good Charlotte and Simple Plan.
The Coca-Cola Co., Motorola Inc. and Hewlett-Packard Co. are on board as sponsors.
