Domestic and international voice-over-Internet-protocol rollouts helped Arris Group Inc. to return to profitability in the first quarter of 2005, with the equipment maker posting net income of $3.4 million on revenue of $135.9 million. That compares to a net loss of $18.7 million on revenue of $111.6 million in the year-earlier period.
"It is now clear that convergence of voice, data and video is the major driving force within our industry and with our customers," chairman and CEO Bob Stanzione said in a prepared statement.
Arris said it expects revenues to climb to $145 million-$155 million in the current second quarter.
The company’s first-quarter revenue jump was primarily driven by the supplies and customer-premises-equipment product division, where year-over-year revenue rose from $51.7 million to $66.2 million.
