VRV, Ellation’s VOD aggregation service, has added a new ad-based offering, called VRV Select, that offers a curated collection of standalone content and originals, including a handful of originals from Seeso, which is shutting down later this year.
Update: VRV said the new Select service is technically part of its Combo Pack, which sells for $9.99 per month, and is not a service that sits in front of the VRV paywall, as was reported here earlier.
VRV is also tweaking its paid bundles and other portions of its content slate.
Among them, The Nerdist and Geek & Sundry channels are being combined to form a new channel, Alpha, that is available in the VRV bundle. Meanwhile, three other services, Ginx, RiffTrax and Machinima, are being dropped from VRV.
In addition to the new Alpha offering, the revised $9.99 per month VRV Combo Pack will now also include Crunchyroll, Sony’s Funimation, AMC’s Shudder, as well as Rooster Teeth, Cartoon Hangover, Mondo and Tested, as well as VRV Select. VRV customers can also buy SVOD services on an a la carte basis.
And with Seeso, NBCU’s comedy-focused SVOD slated to shut down later this year, that service will also be removed as a channel on VRV, but Seeso originals HarmonQuest, Hidden America, Cyanide and Happiness, and My Brother, and My Brother and Me will be available exclusively on the new VRV Select channel.
As part of a platform refresh, VRV Select and the traditional VRV service is now supported on iOS and Android mobile devices, the PS4, Xbox One, Roku players and web browsers.
VRV, launched commercially last November following a beta trial, has tailored its platform for fans of anime, animation, gaming, fantasy and technology. It has not announced subscriber figures.
Ellation is a portfolio company of Otter Media, the OTT-focused joint venture of AT&T and The Chernin Group.
