Vudu Joins Google Fiber’s Set-Top Lineup

Google Fiber has integrated the VUDU movie and TV service to the Fiber TV Box, the device that’s running the firm’s subscription video service in the Kansas City area.

Google’s also in the process of supporting VUDU on the Google Fiber mobile app, which will extend access to iPhones and Android-powered devices, company product manager Sarthak Ray announced Thursday in this blog post. http://googlefiberblog.blogspot.com/2013/08/more-movies-and-tv-shows-on-demand.html

The integration of VUDU, which also supports the streaming of UltraViolet movies and is accessible via the “More” tab of the Google TV menu, will expand the library of on-demand fare available to the Google Fiber TV box.  Google TV has also integrated Netflix and YouTube, and, in June, added  Redbox Instant by Verizon. Google Fiber also runs a VOD service that offers “hundreds” of titles.

"If you’re looking for a specific movie or TV show to watch tonight, chances are increasingly good that you’ll be able to find it using your Google Fiber TV service,” Ray wrote.

Google Fiber currently sells its subscription TV service in a $120 per month bundle that includes its 1 Gbps broadband service.

For now, it’s only available to a small pocket of Kansas City, Kan., as Google Fiber prepares to light up several more “fiberhoods” in Kansas, as well as Kansas  City, Mo., throughout the rest of the summer.

Google Fiber also has plans to start delivering services in Provo, Utah, later this year, after sealing up its acquisition of the iProvo network. It’s also preparing to connect homes in Austin, Texas, by mid-2014.
