Cable viewers devoured Sunday's second season premiere of AMC's zombie series The Walking Dead, drawing a series high 7.3 million viewers.
The 90-minute season debut also drew 4.8 million adult viewers, the most ever for a single drama telecast, according to network officials. The show's 7.3 million total viewers were a 38% increase over last year's 5.2 million viewer season average. The freshman season of The Walking Dead also averaged 3.5 million adults 18-49 making it then the most watched drama series in basic cable history for the demo.
Repeat airings of the season two premiere episode at 10:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. cumed to 11 million viewers, said network officials.
