NFL Network’s upcoming half-hour special about the Harlem Hellfighters will have an Academy Award-winning voice.
Denzel Washington will narrate the story of the Hellfighters -- a rare high-school football team made up of students from 13 Harlem-area schools -- which will air on the National Football League’s cable service Wednesday, Dec. 15 at 8 p.m. (EST/PST), the network said Thursday.
The special will follow the team as it prepares for a game against Stuyvesant High School, and viewers will follow the team practice, visit the players in school and hear from players, teachers, parents, coaches and the community.
“The Hellfighters are a terrific and inspiring story that shows the impact of football on the youth of America,” NFL Films president Steve Sabol said in a prepared statement. “We are thrilled to have Denzel Washington’s support in narrating this show to give the story the impact it deserves.”
The special will reair on NFL Network Thursday, Dec. 16 at noon and 4 p.m., as well as Saturday, Dec. 18 at 3 p.m.
