The Weather Channel said it has tapped AT&T Corp. to provide streaming and caching services for its Web site (www.weather.com).

TWC will use AT&T's Internet-protocol backbone, which will speed download times for the site -- ranked as the 10th-most-popular on the Web, with more than 25 million users, according to Nielsen//NetRatings.

"We can now more effectively prepare for traffic spikes during severe weather events in order to maintain the highest standards for our users," TWC Interactive vice president of technology Dan Agronow said in a prepared statement.
