USA Network returned to the top slot in primetime among ad-supported cable last week.
The “characters” network, which had four of the week’s top-nine-rated shows, averaged a 2.3 household rating Aug. 14-20, edging out Disney Channel, which scored a 2.2 mark, according to an ABC Disney Cable Networks analysis of Nielsen Media Research data.
The prior week, USA was tied with TNT atop cable’s primetime perch. The drama network finished third from Aug. 14-20, earning a 2.0 mark.
Lifetime Television -- benefiting from weekend airings of The Fantasia Barrino Story: Life Is Not a Fairy Tale, an original telefilm about the American Idol winner -- finished fourth last week with a 1.9 average. ESPN was fifth with 1.8.
Rounding out the top 10: Cartoon Network with a 1.4; Fox News Channel, TBS and Hallmark Channel, all with 1.3 averages; and A&E Network and Sci Fi Channel, both with a 1.2.
Spike TV, Home & Garden Television and Nick at Nite just missed the top 10, as each notched a 1.1 primetime household average.
The Aug. 14 installment of TNT’s The Closer was the highest-rated show of the week with a 5.6, However, USA scored with a 4.3 mark for WWE Monday Night Raw from 10 p.m.-11 p.m. Aug. 14 (fifth); a 4.1 for Monk Aug. 18 (sixth); Raw from 9 p.m.-10 p.m. Aug. 14 (eighth); and Psych with a 3.7 Aug. 18 (ninth).
ESPN’s first Monday Night Football game -- the preseason contest between the Oakland Raiders and Minnesota Vikings -- tackled a 4.5 Aug. 14, good for fourth place last week.
