Western Show Goes All-Tech

Western Show organizers released their preliminary exhibitor list Friday
morning for their first all-technology cable edition, 'BroadbandPlus.'

With less than five months before opening day Dec. 3, 110 companies have
taken Anaheim Convention Center floor space. Organizers are promising on the
annual convention's Web site that
more than 150 companies will showcase their wares by show time.

Separately, Cable Television Laboratories Inc. has signed 53 companies to
participate in CableNET, its annual Western Show offering. Microsoft Corp.,
Broadcom Corp. and Motorola Inc. are among 10 firms landing floor space in both
the main exhibit hall and CableNET.

Although the show is billed as all-tech -- concentrating on video-on-demand,
interactive TV, home networking and other advanced service opportunities -- a
few programmers are on board: Univision Communications Inc., FamilyNet, Eternal
Word Television Network and Trinity Broadcasting Network.

Last year's mass programmer pullout, with Univision among that crowd,
contributed to the lowest Western Show attendance in more than a decade and
prodded organizers to redesign the convention as all-tech.

New main-hall exhibitors include Convergent Networks Inc., the HomePlug
Powerline Alliance and SS8 Networks Inc.

First-time participators in CableNET -- marking its 10th anniversary as a
Western Show attraction -- include ConnectME, Gatespace AB, Incognito Software
Inc. and Sonus Networks Inc.

The California Cable & Telecommunications Association is the Western
Show's lead organizer.
