WICT Selects 180 Designees for Rising Leadership Program

Women in Cable Telecommunications has selected 180 designees for its 2013 Rising Leaders Program

WICT increased the number of available seats in the program, comprising industry professionals at the manager and director level who have demonstrated leadership potential within their companies, to 180 this year from 120 to accommodate a record of nearly 300 applicants. The top candidates from the ranks of operators, programmers and vendors were designated based on an established selection process led by 61 cable professionals, alumnae of the program, who served on the 2013 Application Review Committee.  A list of the designees is available here.

This year, two classes will run concurrently in Fort Lauderdale, Florida from April 21-26, San Diego from May 5-10, and Atlanta from Nov. 3-8. Participants engage in an intensive weeklong immersion program, comprised of leadership analysis, high-performing affinity groups, cable business acumen and tactical personal leadership skill development. Learning continues throughout the year through affinity group activities, and culminates with a presentation to their peers. The in-depth course curriculum will be led by Erika Andersen, founder of Proteus International, and is supported by Proteus' senior staff members, Cindy Swensen, Jennifer Sherman and Therese Miclot.

A grant from the Walter Kaitz Foundation will support eight full scholarships in this year's program for RLP designees from smaller companies and industry nonprofits. Comcast/NBCUniversal is the silver sponsor and Suddenlink Communications as the bronze sponsor of the 2013 Rising Leaders Program.

"The WICT Rising Leaders Program was created to ensure that cable's next generation of women leaders is ready to face the challenges that await them as they climb the corporate ladder," said Christina Vergara, WICT vice president of education and program development, in a statement. "We are very pleased to have record demand for this valuable program, which provides these rising stars with important tools to better enable them to build strong teams, improve their companies and advance their careers."
