Paul Allen's camp left unconfirmed a report published Friday in The Irish
Times that the Charter Communications Inc. owner will make a
multimillion-dollar investment in an overseas sports cable-network venture.
According to the Times report, Allen will partner with Irish-based
media firm Setanta on North American Sports Network, a service bringing events
from ESPN and Fox Sports, plus other coverage sources, to Ireland and Great
Britain starting in December.
The service would be targeted to U.S. and Canadian expatriates living in both
Jason Hunke, marketing/public-relations director at Vulcan Inc., Allen's
investment house, said in a press-time electronic mail to Multichannel News
that the Times report 'contains some correct and incorrect
information,' but he would not elaborate.
