A motion to change the bankruptcy status of overbuilder Western Integrated
Networks LLC, doing business as WINfirst, was tabled Monday in U.S. Bankruptcy
Court in Denver.
The chairman of the unsecured creditors' committee, Tom Connolly of
Louisville, Colo., filed a motion May 1 to change WINfirst's voluntary Chapter
11 filing to a Chapter 7. The latter could have caused the cable operator to
liquidate its assets.
But the clerk for Judge Elizabeth Brown said the motion was tabled
Observers of the case said creditors could get more if the operator -- which
has partially built a fiber-to-the-home system in Sacramento, Calif. -- remains
a going concern.
Last week, regional telephone company SureWest Communications expressed
interest in buying part or all of WINfirst.
The court clerk said creditors are open to refile the Chapter 7 motion later,
