WorldGate Gives Kids Free Internet


WorldGate Communications Inc. said Monday that it has begun deploying 'WISH
TV' technology to seven schools in Louisiana, Ohio and Illinois.

The pilot educational-technology program gives free Internet access over the
television to fourth-graders both at home and in their classrooms.

Initial cable operators partnering in the pilot program include Charter
Communications Inc., Massillon Cable TV Inc. and Buckeye CableSystem.

The cable operators wire the participating homes and schools and provide
installation free-of-charge. Set-top-box makers Scientific-Atlanta Inc. and
Motorola Broadband Communications Sector donate the boxes.

WorldGate officials expect to expand the program during the next school

In the program, teachers are encouraged to post class assignments and
educational Web links for their students online.
