WOW To Roll Out Arris Whole Home Gateways

WideOpenWest has launched the Arris Whole Home Solution, which is centered on the Moxi Gateway -- a six-tuner HD multiroom DVR with a DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem and voice-over-IP features.

WOW, the 15th-largest pay TV operator in the U.S. with 432,000 video subscribers, will market the service as WOW Ultra TV. The solution will use the Moxi user interface branded for WOW and will include Moxi Player set-tops for multiroom DVR. Other features of the gateway include VoIP, media sharing, Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA) connectivity and optional in-home Wi-Fi routing.

"As we continue to innovate our products and services to meet customers' changing needs, we look for technology collaborators that can bring expertise and flexible solutions to fit our unique architectural, financial and customer goals," WOW chief technology officer Cash Hagen said in a statement. "We are pleased to have found such a relationship in Arris and look forward to delighting our customers with our new WOW Ultra TV."

Other operators deploying Arris' Moxi gateway solution include Shaw Communications, BendBroadband and Buckeye CableSystem. The vendor has said it expects the Whole Home Gateway product line to generate sales of at least $100 million in 2012.

Privately held WOW, which provides service in parts of Illinois, Michigan, Indiana and Ohio, is owned by Avista Capital Partners.
