WWE Climbs Into Fantasy-Sports Ring

World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. is getting into the fantasy-sports business.

Sports-information provider STATS Inc. will power "WWE Fantasy Salary Cap Game," which will kick off on WWE’s Web site (www.wwe.com) starting with the season premiere of WWE Monday Night Raw Sept. 20 on Spike TV.

Each contestant will have $20 million in fantasy money to select and manage a team of WWE Superstars. Each team earns points by following story lines, matches, wins and finishing moves.

Game registration is $9.95 per team for eight weeks, and one lucky fan will be crowned the ultimate WWE Fantasy Champion and receive an authentic replica WWE Fantasy Championship Belt.

"Now fans have a chance to participate in one of the fastest-growing game activities online with our new WWE Fantasy Salary Cap Game," WWE vice president of interactive development David Knise said in a prepared statement. "Fans can be a WWE Virtual GM and create their own roster of WWE Superstars.”
