WWE Launches Campaign, Posts Profit

World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. wants you to "Smack Your TV."

WWE said Monday that it has developed a new ad campaign for its WWE SmackDown!, with the eventual goal of driving viewers to its March 14 WrestleMania XX pay-per-view event.

UPN airs SmackDown! Thursdays at 9 p.m. EST/PST. A separate campaign is in development and will be instituted for WWE Monday Night Raw, which airs on Spike TV Mondays at 9 p.m. EST/PST.

Smack Your TV was created by Seattle-based ad agency Wongdoody. The total media support for the campaign over the next five months is valued at more than $2 million, WWE said.

In other WWE news, the company reported a third-quarter net profit of $17.1 million, or 25 cents per share, compared with a net loss of $1.6 million (2 cents) in the year-earlier period.

Revenues in the quarter rose to $94.4 million from $90.3 million. PPV purchases were up 29% in the quarter to 1.5 million from 1.1 million in third-quarter 2002.
